well, that was the main idea, when i started thinking of the baby sprinkle (what’s that? “baby sprinkle”? read on…)
i even had a FAQ on the invite, lol!
diapers: because the baby obviously needs them.
dresses: because girls look undeniably cute in them.
dr seuss (ie books): because girls not only gotta look cute, they gotta have brains too, you know.
so, the diaper part, we got down pat, coz my Whims & Fancies partner and co-towkay, with the help of two little elves, stayed up to 2am in the morning doing this.

we’ve yet to name this kelong diaper cake (kelong because i was right there in the room when it was ‘baked’ and although banned from touching it, i couldn’t help it lor), but we’ll think of something. that’s always the part we have some (brain-racking) fun with, actually! ;)
next, the dresses part. thanks to the guests, some came in the perfect dresses that fit the colour theme (and all abided by the No Pink rule), and most came WITH dresses for the unborn one (SOME OF WHICH WERE PINK! *gasp*).

ok, spot who’s NOT following the theme. (even baby nusair was in a white & green romper ok. hee.)

but wait… the last part was, strangely enough, not fulfilled. hmm… i wonder why?? lol! ok, maybe i’ll bring my tummy to watch Horton Hears A Who.
so obviously, i wasn’t about to go for a pink do. like, duh! i guess i could’ve gone with something more adventurous like black & white, or red & black, or… well, the possibilities are endless. but purple, green & white has ALWAYS been my favourite (feminine) colour combination, so there. and so i went on a purple & green frenzy (coz i’m obsessive like that, sigh).

thankfully, my guests humoured my mak buyong whims and fancies (ahem), coz they also came with purple & green food, bless them.

and i provided my current favourite drink (other than Sunkist orange juice, which obviously doesn’t go with the theme) – Grape Snapples. MMMMM. :)
right, as for the question, “Why a Baby Sprinkle and not a Shower?”
well, simply because:
a) it was a small-scaled affair (held at our humble ‘six-star’ Hotel 498, located in the east :p),
b) it’s not my first baby (had one before, shower AND baby),
c) we don’t need anything much coz all the basic baby stuff are already part of our existing infrastructure (you know, baby tub, baby cot, minyak telon, etc).
there weren’t even any games or prizes, just a whole lotta eating, ‘discussing’ and catching up on ‘news’ (HA HA). oh, and cooing at the little ones who were present. (aniq was sent off to his oma’s, where he had a nice looooong nap!)
and by now i’m sure you want me to shut up and view more pictures, right? right.
ok ok. hmph.
…
thanks girls (especially to my default Chief-in-Command, rini)! *sprinkles baby dust to all* :D

something that said “diva”, a customer specifically said, with a yellow buttercup base and polka-dots.
woah, another challenge, we thought!

Diva-ine Buttercup Cake
well… don’t know whether we fulfilled all her requirements, but we sure tried our darndest. we love birds, i mean, plumes, as you can tell. hee.
ouh, also another customer specifically requested for a princess tiara… and well, it’s nothing new coz i’m sure you’ve seen it before, but we couldn’t say no, could we? erm, please don’t call us copycats… :)

Primrose Princess Cake
and i have officially become a weekend hermit coz am simply TOO heavy and lazy to even move. as sluggish as a slug. sigh.
ps: thanks esah for dropping by with the chocs on W&F’s late night weekend session, that fruit & nut toblerone was my saviour during my butt-stuck-to-the-chair moments when i was too heavy/lazy/sluggish to salvage for proper food. very nutritious, no? :d

remember the peacock that tried to gatecrash len’s baby shower?

well, he was our “inspiration” for this cake! :D

Chocolate Cinnamon Gateau
the order was for an indian baby shower, and the mother is particularly enamoured by the colour brown for her baby boy. the shower’s theme was also brown, blue and gold, and we, as usual, got REALLY excited at being thrown such a request. ouhh, the possibilities! ideas were volleyballed around – elephants, henna… wait, peacock feathers – they have lovely royal shades of brown, gold and blue! perfect. :)

note: no animals were harmed in the making of this diaper cake
the little one even exclaimed “cake!” and pretended to use his finger to have a ‘taste’ coz it looked convincingly rich and chocolatey. even we felt like cutting a slice of it at the end, heh.
oh, and like i mentioned before, more pinks-and-browns for the girly girls. come onnnn, anyone wants a peach-and-chocolate one for a change instead? quick, email the W&F team!

yes yes, very sibuk lor, lol!
this week’s theme is Strawberries & Chocolate, apparently. lots of requests for this particular flavour! but we’re moving on to more exciting, and very challenging, stuff next week so… good luck to us, hehe. (photos will be up later when, again, i see sunlight.)
meanwhile, not only the aunties are having pajama parties – even the little ones are, literally. :)

i *swear* i didn’t buy those pjs for him, ok! his oma did!
yes, the damdils do sleep over occasionally, when their mommies are beating ‘deadlines’! and what do they do to amuse themselves? their ‘chief’, aka aniq, would run around after the other two and make them squeal and giggle, engage in pillow fights, fling around various pieces of blocks, and well, creating general pandemonium. while the daddies watch football matches on tv. and their mummies neglect them from being absorbed with solving tricky nip/tuck procedures.
ok, maybe i should mention about the unborn one for a bit too.
went to see the doc on weds, but two more patients before my turn, he had to rush out to deliver a baby whose head was already visible at the ‘exit’, hehe. i think the storks were also busy with their ‘orders’, like the W&F team, coz a few more were being delivered after that.
so, i had to head down again today, and thankfully, no babies were emerging from their mommies’ thingamajigs. which gave us time for a nice long chat with the doc, who once again said i gotta go exercise my tummy muscles BEFORE i get pregnant again – WHAT?!? exercise?? get pregnant again?? the thought of doing both is enough to give me a multiple dose of braxton-hicks.
the baby’s head is still not heading southwards, which got me a bit worried coz aniq was already at the right position when i was in my 7th month with him. doc said i’ve still got a month or so to go, so there’s still time for a turnaround. he did discuss what would happen if she decided to appear butt-first. basically, it’d be easy for the butt to come out, since it’s smaller than the head, but getting the head out if you’re not fully dilated, would be a problem – the thought of the baby with its neck stuck is, well, not very pleasant. :S
haiyah, very depressing lah. ok ok, happy thoughts!
lemme have some ben & jerry’s. and maybe whip up more ‘ingredients’ for our next cake… macam real jer, kalah buat kek betol. hehe. but hey, i do know of women who go into cooking or baking frenzy, and go all domestic during their pregnancy. do the babies come out, well, picking up this trait as part of their future personality? hmm… (if that’s the case, my mum must’ve been real lousy in the kitchen when she had me lor!)

we had an order for an orange diaper cake, and we were inspired by these. :)

admittedly, we’d only heard of jaffa cakes, but they’re not sold in singapore, are they? macam sedap liddat, eh?
and so came about Geoffrey’s Jaffa Cake…

Geoffrey the Giraffe, that is. heh. yeah, the W&F team can be corny like that. (and we have a thing for alliterations. :p)
speaking of corny… Corn-on-the-Cob Cake, anyone? (kidding! yuk!)
more of our latest confections here, as usual.
and ouhh, we had more lovely elves-in-training drop by W&F HQ/factory for a very late night potluck on saturday. one of them wanted to pick up an order, and the rest took it upon themselves to go mad with our diapers and ribbons. they attempted a Mad Hatter’s Cake for a friend whose baby we’ve yet to visit, but that didn’t do so well, then they came up with an innovative square-tiered cake, which is pret-ty cool, so look out for it!

……. well, right after the Whims & Fancies duo dismantle their half-baked (pun intended) attempt, and re-do it with our, ahem, W&F touch and finesse, ok? (yes, they gave up coz they decided it was waaay too much trouble for them and would rather pay us ‘professionals’ to do it, LOL! call themselves elves, tsk. but nevermind, you guys think ‘out of the box’, we like.) ;p

yet another ‘slumber party’ for us, getting our orders done for the weekend. we’re relishing the challenges thrown at us, especially with big orders like the one our little elf-in-training’s holding here.

what we mean by ‘challenge’ is, each cake is like a game of of problem-solving for us. like piecing together a huge puzzle or building up lego blocks, but with more ‘complicated’ materials – towels, blankets, ribbons… every item is obsessively put together by two, well, obsessive people. and it’s great having a partner, who not only offers a finger to tie knots, but also to take over when one is stuck with a particularly uncooperative bow or a difficult nip/tuck manouevre. and somehow, the problem’s always solved, in a way that we’re both happy with. as they say, two heads are better than one, and well, four hands are apparently more useful than two too. :)
anyway, our ‘slumber party’ was made even more lively this time with our elf-in-training. oh, and she’s offering our ‘trade secrets’ for a sum of money, by the way, ha ha.

and here’s two more flavourful ‘confections’ to add to the list:

Mango Coral Cheesecake, Dolly Lollipop Cake
heh, we couldn’t help it with the Dolly the Sheep thing. it also brought about a (bimbotic) discussion on the difference between sheep and lamb. and how we almost ‘gay-ified’ the sheep with a butterfly on its head, then realise it’s beyond ‘gay-ified’ on account of its fleece being pink.
and yes, this is the kind of inane talk that fills up our many hours of working together and, err, ‘stirs’ up our creative juices. :p
one of the results of that, our creme de la creme… (so far!)

Strawberry Dream Fairycake
i realise it’s been some time since i’ve veged out on the couch and watched, really watched, tv, so i think i should reclaim some couch time tomorrow while the two fellas in da house go for that airshow everyone’s talking about (even aniq, who exclaims “eh-pen!” every few minutes a plane roared in the sky outside our balcony today). me time, finally! :)

i guess it had to happen some time, but it’s okay. i think we’ll just have to add it up to a lesson learnt in “business”. you know, the whole customer-confirms-then-pulls-out-of-a-transaction thing, despite enthusiastic ideas thrown around and items all sourced out, because of another “offer”?
oh well. c’est la vie… we’ll reserve it for a more deserving customer. but you can betcha it’d have been a killer cake. :)
aaanyway, rin was over at my place last night to complete our grandest project yet, and redeemed ourselves by pouring our heart and soul into this one, despite (or maybe because of) that slight setback.
i must say, babies these days are so blessed with sooo many BEAUTIFUL things – i fell in love with these ballerina shoes and simply HAD to have them, nevermind if they were for a customer’s diaper cake and not for my own babe. and whaddaya know, they matched the theme perfectly. :)

i know, i know – MORE pink! ahh, you just can’t help it, can you? hehe.
will take more decent pics when we see sunlight at home. (yes, we’re practically vampires nowadays, spending more time awake at night with our projects. but hey, they’re all worth it – go Team Whims & Fancies, lol!)

email us if you’d like one: sales.whimsnfancies@gmail.com.
thanks for the support so far! we may not be the first in this, or the best, that’s for sure – but we do this with lotsa heart, sincerity, and a dash of personal gratification. and we’re simply glad for all the gracious ‘rezeki’ that comes our way. :)

because more baby girls came out of the oven and said “gimme something sweet!”
*****
and speaking of babies, i bought myself a measuring tape earlier today, and o.m.g.
the girth of my tummy is already EXACTLY 100 CM!
which is madness coz i measured at 100cm when i was nine months with aniq!!

:O
and yes, i look like a fat, juicy boysenberry jam pie myself in my purple baju butterfly makcik-makcik, which i finally unearthed from the inner belly of my cupboard.

rin and i have done lots of things in “collaboration” from our school days, from art projects to english assignments (!!), so it was only natural that we jumped on the opportunity (or some might say, “bandwagon”) to do something like this, because we’ve always had similar tastes and ideas, especially for pretty things, and we always wanted to release this dormant “let’s-make-pretty-things-for-people” energy that’s been pent-up in us for the longest time. :D

we named this “Strawberry Tiramisu Shortcake”! just *try* to restrain yourselves from eating it, ok…

*the little mitten cupcakes at the bottom is in collaboration with our other partner, Simplycupcakes.
and of course, since it was our first attempt at diaper cakes, this one’s made with extra lurve for someone special who held her baby shower over the weekend.

despite the innocent-looking girly-girl pink affair, it ended up more akin to a wild hen party, with body parts being flashed, raucous laughters that prompted neighbouring guests to complain to the reception counter, and even a resplendent peacock that insistently peered (and leered) through our room, waiting to gatecrash the party.

hey baby in the tummy (yes, yours, len!), we hope you’ll turn out more proper and ladylike than your mummy’s crazy friends, ok? ;p enjoy your diapers! (and make sure you come out in time for your mummy to be free of confinement by Good Friday, coz she’s got more partying to do, heh.)
OHHH, and if any of you like the diaper cake that you see up there, yes, rin & i ARE taking orders. but OF COURSE.
because we love making pretty things. because we still have LOTS of that pent-up energy in us. (and also because we love to shop for baby things, hehe.)
