there was a time, almost a decade ago, when i finally decided to meet this guy for lunch on a saturday afternoon, somewhere in bugis.

call it serendipity.

we were actually acquainted some seven years before that, but being the vacuous youths that we were then, well, we never hit it off. only seven years later, when our paths converged again, that we discovered we had, in fact, many things in common, uncannily enough.

among them being, our taste in music. needless to say, idle moments were spent sharing earphones plugged to a discman. (you know, from the dinosaur age before mp3 and ipods.)

he used to burn copies of cds for me, and in return, i made him a compilation for his birthday in 2000. wow, was that eight years ago?? :D

cd1

so, what’s on it, then? erm, i’m afraid i can’t exactly explain all my choices here – he’d know the context and meanings best. i think. :p

1. soundtrack 4 2 lovers – mansun
2. ultraviolet (light my way) – U2
3. funny thing – travis
4. morning song – jewel
5. you & me song – the wannadies
6. with or without you (live version) – U2
[like, hello! mega bono fan here, of course. ha ha.]
7. hummer – smashing pumpkins
8. my dark star – suede
9. black star – radiohead
10. i want you – third eye blind
11. ice-cream – sarah mclachlan
12. all i want is you – U2
[we love 'reality bites'. period.]
13. what’s my age again? – blink182
[this was, after all, a 23rd birthday compilation! ;)]

of course, if we were to make a new compilation now, there’d be a whole LOT more songs we’d have to squeeze in. like our wedding song. (don’t laugh – it was a norah jones, lol!) heck, we’d even have to include our kids’ favourite songs as well. (as it is, aniq already has a few hot picks!)

and seeing how izadnhana intend to stick till-death-do-us-part together, you can say, the list would be infinite.

speaking of which, we’re pretty psyched to watch this movie, opening on 11 dec – nick & norah’s infinite playlist. it’s got michael cera, who also starred in juno (he’s grown so much since arrested development), and promises to be the kind of teen romance you wouldn’t find in, say… hmmm, high school musical? lol!

watch out for it…

the latest and last installment of our 2 days trip to KL which we all agreed was way too SHORT!

i’m really amazed that the videos really create a lot of buzz in the websphere with each episode hitting more than 500 views EACH! wow! (if one person just pay 10 cent to watch each video, gua kaya, haha!!)

so, its either there are really 500 viewers to the blog or the same people keep viewing the videos 500 times!

anyway, since this is the last of the KL videos, we really like to thank lennyrendra for organising the trip and nazrini for finding such great accomodation. and the rest of the roadtrippers, you guys rawk!! (we should organise more of these type of trips)

btw, the dvd is near completion, and since it seems that the videos are really popular, i’m taking orders of the dvd for the rest of the viewers who wants a copy for a low price of $29.99 with autographs from the roadtrippers and a personalise cd cover! (no lah, joking only) :)

ok, i don’t want to waste anymore time, since i got an assignment to complete also, enjoy the video and selamat berpuasa!

the continuing episode of our trip to KL. did a few minor tweaks to the video with additional footage from boylydia’s dslr camera.

anyway for the roadtrippers, i will compile a director’s cut edition and burn it on a dvd. footage which did not make the cut will also be included. photos from boylydia’s and hana’s cameras will also be added in the dvd. not to worry, i will burn each family a copy. date of release would be in a week’s time.

for the rest, enjoy the video. same disclaimer:- food scenes may be harmful to those fasting, best view after buka :)

hey, do we still have hooters in singapore…? :p

***

ouhh, if you haven’t watched Juno, you MUST. wait, is it out in the theatres yet? coz izad d/l it to his PSP from, hmm… somewhere, plugged it to the tv, and insisted i watch it with him.

gladly enough, i did. killer script and soundtrack! quirky and indie and smart – a winning combination.

and i think ellen page is the next It girl.

speaking of teenage pregnancies, we were discussing how easy it is for sixteen-year-olds to get pregnant, and BE pregnant. like, their bodies are meant to go through the whole childbearing process effortlessly.

i mean, all those stories we hear in our local news about secretly getting through nine months hiding their bellies underneath their school uniforms and giving birth to babies in toilets – a thirty-year-old can’t get away with that, surely! (lemme go find my old tkg uniform and see if i can fit in it now, ok?) how do they do that, get away with nary a waddle, with not even a whiff of suspicion from their parents or teachers, and then give birth alone in a toilet, flush it down, get up and go. free delivery, so to speak.

ok. i think that’s depressing enough.

but go watch the show! it’s not depressing at all. in fact, it’s all vair heartwarming (nevermind the moral implications). and vair cool (once again, nevermind that it would probably inspire even more sixteen-year-olds to get knocked up).

after being ‘locked up’ at home the whole of saturday, the disgruntled mummy went mental and decided to break free from mummyhood on sunday and leave the lil one with his daddy at home to go gallivanting with her cousin.

it’s been a while since i went to the cinema for a movie with a rating that’s neither G nor PG.

ok, so the show we watched was not even R(21), but NC(16). ‘lust, caution’ was a bit too heavy for us, and i thought we could go with “some nudity and sexual references”.

and here’s the biggest joke of the day.

we were asked for our I/C before entering the cinema!!!

we looked at each other incredulously, then we looked at the ticket girl incredulously, me in all my, err, motherly/matronly/mak-mak glory, insisting that i’ve had a child, for heaven’s sake, i’ve SEEN more than some nudity (and not just my baby’s bottom) and am acquainted with more than some sexual references, but i guess rules are rules, and out came our almost-peeled-at-the-corners I/Cs (which i understand, is due to be changed by the end of the year when i turn FREAKING THIRTY!).

to think we were more concerned that they would confiscate the burger king meals we’d smuggled in our Forever21 shopping bags.

we ended up laughing and tripping our way to our seats like the giggly teenagers we were supposed to be, and that surely made my day – looking suspiciously under the age of 16.

we really should have stuck to watching ‘bratz’.

anyway, other than that (and one of nur’s friend asking if i’m her younger sister, wuahaha! – whoops, sorry babe, i mean, that’s just wronnggg…), we had a satisfactorily girly time trying on clothes, and searching for shoes and bags (unsuccessfully, i might add – we NEVER find what we want, murphy’s law in shopping). and no, i didn’t even look for any kids’ stuff or clothes. strictly mummy stuff. coz sometimes, mummies need to feel something other than mummies.

and it looked like the little one too had his good time with his “diddy”, who said he didn’t even look for his “mimmy” the whole time she was gone. pfft!

Swing swing
“this used to be my playground… wait, this IS my playground.”

PB113485
“mimmy? what mimmy? doo dee doo…”

hey, liddat i can leave you two at home more often during weekends hor, yey!

(tsk, such typical wayward teenage mother behaviour… :p)

due to lack of viable babysitting arrangements and bad parenting (ha ha), you can now add another ‘cartoon’ to that list of yours which already includes x-men and superman, babe.

this time, though, you can walk (or sneak) into the cinema yourself.

TRANSfat?

our ‘rombongan’ occupied two and a half rows, thanks to your unty esah who booked the seats waaay in advance. (well ok, two days ago.)

TRANSitlink?

since there was an extra seat in our row, we plopped you on a booster seat, where you munched on your snacks, goggle-eyed.

TRANSvestite?

you generally behaved, as we’d thought, only occasionally climbing down during the less explosive bits to escape to the aisle, which was barricaded by uncle fadz’s legs, and badgering unty rini and uncle naz sitting in front for their popcorn, which kept you quite busy hehe.

otherwise, you sat, TRANSfixed, as the helicopters and planes and cars went berserk on screen (which i tried, and failed miserably, to shield your eyes from – you kept swiping my hands away, grrr~), and ended up perched on my lap, waving your arms and fists at the screen (as unty esah said, “dengan muka-muka sekali!”) as thunderous shots were fired and orange flames burst to monstrous effect.

alamak, this show, SO GUY lor. testosterone overdrive habis.

so, what do you think of the autobots?

well, you nodded off two-thirds into the show (as you did all the other movies), so perhaps you were only mildly impressed by them.

then again, it WAS your bed-time!

mummy and daddy thought the storyline was kinda, well… lame. alah, macam frodo protecting and running away with the ring from the dark lord of mordor to save middle-earth gitu. (that witwicky fella pon cute and kecik macam frodo jugak.) daddy thinks the ol’ skool cartoons had more heart. mummy, well, she never bothered with boy stuff back then, she was more into smurfs and gummi bears, so she went in with pretty much zero expectation. :p

in any case, we reckon hasbro did a damn good job at creating a dizzying hype and emptying the pockets of a sentimental generation who grew up on the cartoon on tv and can now afford to buy themselves the slew of toys and collectibles, manufactured in conjunction with the movie.

and kudos to the special effects people for making my head spin from trying to figure out (and failing miserably, again) how the massive, gangly, apes of steel can turn into cute, compact little vehicles in mere seconds. (and also, how alien robots always end up in america, speaking english and trying to save the human race, and how the american air force and army ALWAYS win in heroic battles between good vs evul. sekali sekali kalah tak boleh ke?)

we hope that the movie will not cause much detriment to your fragile young psyche. violence is bad, ok? cannot fight fight, shoot shoot like that, you know?

and no, that small yellow car you pointed to at the carpark when you woke up after the show, that was NOT Bumblebee.

ps: friday night, and the place, ie. orchard cineleisure, was packed with youths, ie. young people, and made us, ie. your parents, feel old-ish coz we were the only one with a babe in arms. or at least, like wayward teens with an out-of-wedlock child, boohoo! :D

because of this lil plush fella, i actually did something i’d never done before.

pre-order a copy of a harry potter book! from borders, no less.

coz i figure, i’ll buy the book aaaaanywaaaay, so i might as well get something out of it. (vair lame but i’m a freebieholic, can?)

i used to download the first few books in my PDA and read the entire thing for free, or borrowed a hard copy from a friend. i don’t know why i was so resistant to buy them myself even though i REALLY like the stuff. i did eventually purchase the last two installments, and i should get around to owning the complete set, erm, some day.

anyway, the hype is just avada kedavra killing me. will dumbledore resurrect like fawkes, his phoenix? is snape a good guy or a bad guy? will harry snog more chicks? will hermione and ron get it on, like, finally?

nevermind the movie, i want the book! (AND that owl!)

meanwhile, some entertaining nuggets from jk rowling as we count down to 21 july…

ps: did you know that Dumbledore is an old English word for bumblebee? more than meets the eye! [;) @ kak m.]

11pm, you say?

well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet, maam. :D

erm, night-time formula one race circuit, anyone?

yes, he was in his pjs, at the botanic gardens, close to 11 at night, running round and round and round. :p

it was altogether a pretty good evening. he didn’t really attempt to wander from our spot on the slope of the garden while we watched hugh grant shake his bonbon at drew barrymore (‘music & lyrics’ was screened that night), and when i insisted on covering his eyes during the smoochie scenes, he marvelled at the twinkly stars and the moon in the lovely clear sky overhead instead.

oh, and he terrorised aunty pina too.

i think the last we went to one of these outdoor movie screenings was ‘gubra’, with him in tow. but that didn’t really count coz it was a drive-in and we were in the car.

wait, maybe it was the time when we watched ‘the island’ at the padang, where i was heavily preggers and it was raining and yet there both of us were, huddled on a cold, wet mat in the middle of the field with the threatening sounds of thunder rumbling in the sky. FUN! i lurrrve outdoor movies. (especially when they’re FREE!)

by the way, he was in jammies because that was the attire for the evening. a pair of bananas in pajamas even won the best dressed. we really should get him nicer pjs, though. his pjs are all so… ngetel (as my mum would say it), due to his messy habits. and that 2 for $10 elmo ones we got him from the neighbourhood shop, are such an eyesore, i swear (though he loves them, gah).

ngetel, mum?
