my mum just told me she’s definitely going to perth in august to visit our relative.
which means, she won’t be around to:
a) cook for us
b) entertain aniq in the day
c) ‘guard’ our often-wandering helper
d) call me everyday to update on things i sometimes half-listen to (goings-on in the family, shopping escapades with her also-retired friends, aniq’s latest mischiefs, etc.)
that’s two weeks of no mum. *whine* how am i going to survive??
sooo, i would like you to help me.
no, not cook for me. or babysit aniq in the day. or keep watch over our helper. or call me everyday to gossip (actually, i don’t mind this so much, just make sure it’s juicy and scandalous).
can you help me sway, cajole, coax, persuade, wheedle, plead, beg my BELOVED husband izad (who loves to stay home, grr) to bring ALL of us with her?
and by all of us, i mean me, aniq & auni. no, no, not you.
one month old and you’ve been to at least two tourist attractions: sentosa and the science centre. :p
96 degrees in the shade
ouhh look, freshly hatched chicks from their shells, just like you.
egg shell & Peanut Shell
of course, this time round the purpose was to bring your abang to see the dinosaurs. which he wasn’t very impressed with, and i must say, i was kinda disappointed too. maybe we should’ve brought him to see that big purple dinosaur instead? no?
well, at least he got to date a big fan of the big purple dinosaur…!
forget that purple pansy, sharleez – this is how a REAL dinosaur sounds like!
so auni, are you ready for the zoo next? one kakak working there has reminded us of those free tickets, you know! ;)
we figured it’d be more worthwhile to hold a joint cukur rambut ceremony for the two babies, and invite relatives and friends at one shot since many hadn’t had the chance to be acquainted with the new arrivals, and so we did – for aidin, who’s at that extremely cute age of three months (topped with curls to die for and smiles that melt the heart), and auni, who’s at that rather clueless age of one month (with few fuzzy bits as hair and accidental twitches of the lips that get passed off as smiles).
oh look, four little tykes to strike terror upon their oma! *gasp* let’s tie them to the train tracks!
aniq, auni, aidin, adam… and thomas the train
the last time we had the ceremony for aniq, the husband got to carry the baby during the ceremony, so this time, it was my turn.
.
yeah, told ya the boy’s curls are to die for. compared to our almost-botak girl, tsk. must be from my (follicle-challenged) gene pool. (premature balding/receding hairline’s in my side of the family, gah!)
so, ta-da! her first haircut… err, hair trim. we’ll spare you the “boy or girl?” queries from strangers and not shave your whole head ala GI Jane. keep that few fuzzy bits you call hair, and don’t worry, *some* day you’ll get to wear those hairclips aunty diah gave you, ok? :p
the thing about having kids in the family, is that there’s bound to be comparisons. like how different adam and aniq are. and looks like it’ll begin again – or perhaps has already begun – with the two new additions.
but this time, we have a trump card – “alah, dia kan girl…” and yeah, this line has actually been used a couple of times already as it is.
the thing is, it’s us parents who perpetuate this comparison business – we simply can’t help it! i’ve caught myself asking the husband why the sister’s different from her brother, and it always start with “aniq dulu…”
eg.
“aniq dulu rambut lebat, auni rambut sikit.”
“aniq dulu minum susu banyak! kenapa auni tak minum banyak eh?”
“aniq dulu malam bangun, auni malam tak bangun terus.”
“aniq dulu tembam sekali! auni ni macam tak kembang-kembang jer.”
“aniq dulu active! auni asik tidur, tidur, tidur…”
and the husband’s response would be – you guessed it – “alah, dia kan girl…”
like it makes all the difference in the world, to be a girl!
but maybe it’s a good thing, to have that gender difference as a trump card, since she’s gonna have to compete with her brother AND two boy cousins. heh.
and speaking of cousins, meh, makcik nak promote sikit ni!
with our regular cupcakes and berkats supplier, Simplycupcakes a.k.a. ayu, about to move continents in a few months time, we’re happy to find another worthy replacement in her absence. as my mum says, they both have the same “citarasa”. tasty and tasteful, indeed. :)
while the initial first week of post-natal recovery felt like it was going to last forever, the whole process thereafter surprisingly feels faster this time round than the first.
and as you can tell, i’m not big on confinements. i don’t deny that confinement’s important, for the body to heal, to increase your milk supply, and for the newborn to be ‘protected’ from illnesses (and of course, to hide all that disgusting post-natal flabs from the world!). but i’ll only tolerate up to two weeks, and that’s it. fresh air, please! and err, a bit of walking around is good exercise… no?
i hear some people (ie. the chinese) even get confined up to 100 days! that’s just crazy, man. the thought of being stuck home that long can give me the (post-natal) blues. old folks will tell you things like “nanti masok angin” or “nanti badan sejuk”, or… i don’t know. i don’t exactly have any old folks dishing out to me a smorgasbord of warnings and taboos, so i rely on my experienced and knowledgable tukang urut for all post-natal matters, and if she says ok, then i take her word for it.
alah, mat saleh takde pon confinement, okay jugak perrr… :p
also, with an older child in the picture, you feel more obliged to get up and running as soon as you’re feeling better, coz well, life goes on, and they need you just as much as your newborn.
anyway, since the daddies had started some kind of weekly football workout, we brought the little ones along to join in the kick about.
the men
the mascots
i have a feeling he’s gonna be an avid football player, this boy.
aniq, crowned ‘man of the match’!
as for the baby? aiyah, tucked tight against mummy’s chest with the susu masam smell, she sleeeeeps only lah, all the way. lagi best than playing football, you know.
half of the WAGS, ha ha
ok wait, her eyes were open at this point – pasal dia tau dah nak balik, darrr.
well, that was the main idea, when i started thinking of the baby sprinkle (what’s that? “baby sprinkle”? read on…)
i even had a FAQ on the invite, lol!
diapers: because the baby obviously needs them.
dresses: because girls look undeniably cute in them.
dr seuss (ie books): because girls not only gotta look cute, they gotta have brains too, you know.
so, the diaper part, we got down pat, coz my Whims & Fancies partner and co-towkay, with the help of two little elves, stayed up to 2am in the morning doing this.
we’ve yet to name this kelong diaper cake (kelong because i was right there in the room when it was ‘baked’ and although banned from touching it, i couldn’t help it lor), but we’ll think of something. that’s always the part we have some (brain-racking) fun with, actually! ;)
next, the dresses part. thanks to the guests, some came in the perfect dresses that fit the colour theme (and all abided by the No Pink rule), and most came WITH dresses for the unborn one (SOME OF WHICH WERE PINK! *gasp*).
ok, spot who’s NOT following the theme. (even baby nusair was in a white & green romper ok. hee.)
but wait… the last part was, strangely enough, not fulfilled. hmm… i wonder why?? lol! ok, maybe i’ll bring my tummy to watch Horton Hears A Who.
so obviously, i wasn’t about to go for a pink do. like, duh! i guess i could’ve gone with something more adventurous like black & white, or red & black, or… well, the possibilities are endless. but purple, green & white has ALWAYS been my favourite (feminine) colour combination, so there. and so i went on a purple & green frenzy (coz i’m obsessive like that, sigh).
thankfully, my guests humoured my mak buyong whims and fancies (ahem), coz they also came with purple & green food, bless them.
and i provided my current favourite drink (other than Sunkist orange juice, which obviously doesn’t go with the theme) – Grape Snapples. MMMMM. :)
right, as for the question, “Why a Baby Sprinkle and not a Shower?”
well, simply because:
a) it was a small-scaled affair (held at our humble ‘six-star’ Hotel 498, located in the east :p),
b) it’s not my first baby (had one before, shower AND baby),
c) we don’t need anything much coz all the basic baby stuff are already part of our existing infrastructure (you know, baby tub, baby cot, minyak telon, etc).
there weren’t even any games or prizes, just a whole lotta eating, ‘discussing’ and catching up on ‘news’ (HA HA). oh, and cooing at the little ones who were present. (aniq was sent off to his oma’s, where he had a nice looooong nap!)
and by now i’m sure you want me to shut up and view more pictures, right? right.
and ouhh, we had more lovely elves-in-training drop by W&F HQ/factory for a very late night potluck on saturday. one of them wanted to pick up an order, and the rest took it upon themselves to go mad with our diapers and ribbons. they attempted a Mad Hatter’s Cake for a friend whose baby we’ve yet to visit, but that didn’t do so well, then they came up with an innovative square-tiered cake, which is pret-ty cool, so look out for it!
……. well, right after the Whims & Fancies duo dismantle their half-baked (pun intended) attempt, and re-do it with our, ahem, W&F touch and finesse, ok? (yes, they gave up coz they decided it was waaay too much trouble for them and would rather pay us ‘professionals’ to do it, LOL! call themselves elves, tsk. but nevermind, you guys think ‘out of the box’, we like.) ;p
a lotta exciting things have been happening to many, many people over the weekend.
congrats to the need-i-mention-gorgeous-couple nurul & sofian…
and congrats to the mummies of the new babies who just popped out!
namely ogy (baby aqil), an ol’ tkg friend herda (baby adlynn – darn, there goes another A name i can’t use now, hehe), and…
MY NEW NEPHEW, WHOSE NAME I DON’T EVEN KNOW YET!! (but should start with A too, to follow his older brother, adam.)
he came out right on the dot on the day he’s supposed to. and he’s a hefty one, weighing in at 3.92kg. (can i say “OH. MY. GAWD!”?) nevermind, another cousin for aniq to wrestle with!
so, when will this baby A come out, then?? *looks down at heeyuuuuge tummy hanging down almost to my ankles.*
the makciks at the wedding just now were staring SO HARD at it already. not just the makciks, but also the nyonyas, wherever i go. “wow, look at that circus freak,” they’re saying (i think). gah!
first and foremost, congrats to lenny for huffing and puffing and giving birth to baby Mia last night!
and more feb babies coming up…
+++++
speaking of which, we squeezed in a few hours over the weekend to bring the little one to a birthday party of a feb baby who turned two. (now, if you ask him where he’s going, he’ll tell you either a) “shop” or b) “party” – mummy’s son indeed!)
pinata time
forget the candies
birthday girl wants to murder barney?
would you like an avent teat in no. 4, daddy? LOL!
and the little one left with more gifts than the one he handed to the birthday girl, thanks to us being kelong and participating in all the contests. heh.
+++++
lunch-time, going to see the new feb baby!
+++++
updated: baby mia elisha, eyes wide shut…
+++++
and congrats to shir too for baby ivi who arrived earlier today! :)
rin and i have done lots of things in “collaboration” from our school days, from art projects to english assignments (!!), so it was only natural that we jumped on the opportunity (or some might say, “bandwagon”) to do something like this, because we’ve always had similar tastes and ideas, especially for pretty things, and we always wanted to release this dormant “let’s-make-pretty-things-for-people” energy that’s been pent-up in us for the longest time. :D
we named this “Strawberry Tiramisu Shortcake”! just *try* to restrain yourselves from eating it, ok…
*the little mitten cupcakes at the bottom is in collaboration with our other partner, Simplycupcakes.
and of course, since it was our first attempt at diaper cakes, this one’s made with extra lurve for someone special who held her baby shower over the weekend.
despite the innocent-looking girly-girl pink affair, it ended up more akin to a wild hen party, with body parts being flashed, raucous laughters that prompted neighbouring guests to complain to the reception counter, and even a resplendent peacock that insistently peered (and leered) through our room, waiting to gatecrash the party.
hey baby in the tummy (yes, yours, len!), we hope you’ll turn out more proper and ladylike than your mummy’s crazy friends, ok? ;p enjoy your diapers! (and make sure you come out in time for your mummy to be free of confinement by Good Friday, coz she’s got more partying to do, heh.)
OHHH, and if any of you like the diaper cake that you see up there, yes, rin & i ARE taking orders. but OF COURSE.
because we love making pretty things. because we still have LOTS of that pent-up energy in us. (and also because we love to shop for baby things, hehe.)

question: how many times do you celebrate your 30th birthday?
answer: why, 30 times, of course! :p
enough, no more! we have a 31st birthday to celebrate at the end of THIS year, ok. :S
thanks again eh, even though dah basi macam nasi dalam periuk satu bulan.
speaking of 30, i just collected my new I/C yesterday. why DO we need to change I/Cs at 30 anyway? i think it’s a new policy coz those born in the early 70s like kak nina hasn’t heard of this change-I/C-at-30 rule. no fair! they get to look forever 17 (or whatever age they last made their I/Cs were lah).
i’d done mine as soon as i received the notification, or risked looking waaay unrecognisable nearer the end of this pregnancy, or even post-pregnancy, and look forever fat.
the result? a lopsided, creepy-looking smile, thanks to the unprofessional, home-taken, digitally-photographed picture. bah.
oops! sorry my little pot of hunny, we really meant, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
we totally understand your bewilderment. well, aniq does anyway, since he’d gone through it before, what with people singing and making you blow candles. don’t worry, you’ll get better at the whole birthday party thing. just wait till you’re 21…
or older (think 30)! see these deprived aunties??
ok ok, let’s get back to you, since it was YOUR day after all. we fell in lurve with you from the first time we met, remember that? err, no, of course not. you were asleep the whole time.
by the way, you and aniq, still on, right? ok? set?
can lah… see, even this uncle endorses and will vouch for his character. really! if you want, we can get people to sms their votes too. (send to the number: 1900-VoteAniq. each sms costs 60 cents.) :D
ahhh, and here’s where we got a bit sidetracked from the actual celebration, unfortunately, and went into starstruck-groupie aunties mode, lol!
we were actually SHY at first ok. betol tak bedek. BETOLLLL. the four of us went something like this:
“eh, bila nak amik gambar ni??”
“nanti ahh, kasi dia makan dulu! dah kena warning tadi…”
“cepat cepat, pakai lipstick…”
“bila dia nak abis makan ni??”
“eh, malu ah.”
“we MUST take pictures ok.”
“flickr, 2000 views, confirm!”
(ok lah, ada exaggerate sikit for dramatic purposes.)
but once the cameras started flashing – that was it. we were in full paparazzi swing, jakun to da max. malu? what’s that? we even told him we were sisters of the guys taking our pictures, like, you know, we were all very single and available. i think he heard that we were all sisters. ah, boleh lah jugak! :p
aaanyway, sharleez, you probably think we aunties are shameful and silly for not acting our age. well, listen to the wise old sages hags – you only live once. (and for some of us, you only get to meet the asian idol and act all gatal like esah-yang-kepala-terlentok-on-hady’s-shoulder once too, hehee!)
ps: we forgot to ask for autographs. on our chests. LOL!
