footsie fc wore their new kit yesterday for the first time against nie in a friendly at the tampines safra.
sporting a sleek new black adidas kit, footsie fc was at an all-time high morale mood to extend their unbeatable run.
perhaps we were rusty (last friendly was 2 months ago!) or just plain unfit,
the younger nie team ran riot against us, beating us 5-3.
nevertheless, footsie fc as usual throughly enjoyed the game and hope to build up the camaraderie among the players.
as the saying goes, “kalah tak aper, style mau ada!” translated loosely as lose nevermind, style must have. we all agree that the new kit looks good and stylo! thanks to ashiq for sourcing them out for us!
our winning streak continues as we notched another win. for the first time, footsie fc players have to wake up early on a sunday morning for football.
but it was worth it as we won 2-1 against the Tanjong Katong Tech Sch Alumni, who were more than a match for us. we took our chances well, although some of us were guilty of a few sitters :)
but, it really doesn’t matter as we run out eventual winners. goals were scored by nazfarah in the 34 mins and fadz in the 55 mins. more pictures in flickr.
held our monthly friendly match at tampines saftra. footsie fc is on a roll! undefeated for the last 3 matches!
our team finally gelled and played as a unit. good all round play.
fyi, the score was 3-1. goals courtesy of rendra, saddiq and fadz. :)

we got our first draw of the season, 2-2 against the NIE PE department. playing against a much fitter and well-organised team, we were really made to run especially in the first half. they had more than a dozen chance to bury us in the first half, but with resolute defending by the footsie players and plenty of good luck, we managed to restrict them to just 1 goal.
we started the second half with renewed spirit with our stopper nazfarah who rushed down from work to take over the defensive duties. we got a really fast first goal courtesy of a defensive blunder which nazrini converted easily. we were really on the offensive after the first goal. we had a couple of clear cut chances to take the lead, if not for the acrobatic antics of the goalie, we would be at least 2 goals up.
in the 70th minute, NIE managed to steal a goal back after one of our offside trap didn’t materialise. i say steal because two of their players strayed offside, but according to the referee, they were not interfering with the play. since there were no assistant referees or linesmen for a second opinion, we really got no case. but in the 82th minute, we equalised through a superb freekick by rendra, the ball just sailed towards the top right hand corner. although the keeper managed to get a hand to the ball, nazrini was there to “confirm” the ball crossed the line.
we erupted with joy when the referee blew the finally whistle signalling the end of the match. franking, i was half expecting a thrashing from the NIE trainees, but sometimes we surprised even ourselves, bring on street 51! :)
Team Footsie with NIE PE Department. Notice the latest footsie signing from Dubai ;)
we had our first official friendly match of the season at the tampines safra astroturf pitch last night. although we just break fast 2 hours prior to the match, the guys really showed their mettle against a much younger opponents (at least for the first half, hehe)
the team gelled well even though this was the first time that we played. kudos to the team coach, powerdol for his shrewd first half tactics. we were indeed surprised to be 3-1 up by halftime. goals scored by loki and jon in the first half plus a gift goal from the opponent gave us a commanding 2 goals advantage.
but in the second half, it was a different story. the opponent team perhaps shellshocked by footsie, regrouped and came up stronger. maybe its our lack of fitness that let us down. they came up eventual 4-3 winners
credit has to be given to the younger opponents with their never say die attitude, they kept running while we, mostly daddies with buncit tummies, content to just take it easy. but overall it was a commendable performance by footsie fc. i can see the potential of the team. with more matches and training, we can indeed be a force to be reckoned with :)
ps: thanks to the WAGs that supported us throughout the match.
so we played our hearts out, running and puffing for the bloody ball. screaming and shouting our lungs out. but its great fun when you get 11 guys on the field kicking the ball like no tomorrow, except for last 45 minutes, when most of us had run out of steam and prefer to walk it out and take it slow.
its been a great workout for the guys and special mention had to go to azfar for his acrobatic antics as the goalie. his quick reflexes and diving skills helped to keep out a couple of sure goals. azfar, next week bring your gloves, i think you made the goalposts as your playground! another skillz player had to be naz, who scored a couple of spectacular goals which would definitely make torres proud. :)
this is going to be a weekly thing for the guys. so if any of you out there is itching to kick some balls, feel free to come down and join us. tentatively the next session should be on tuesday, 27 may 2008. same time, same place. so keep the date free! who knows, you could be the next rooney or gerrard ;)
