cat pose

the girl’s turning two in a month’s time, and yes, it’s time for another round of party planning. if you could help me think of a theme i haven’t already done, i’d greatly appreciate it. (and no, still NO pink/princesses please. she has at least eight more years of birthdays to decide that for herself!)

hmm. it wouldn’t be too crazy if we made everyone come as lady gaga, would it…?

[update: theme decided! ok go!]

received a tweet from putriberendam last sunday saying that domino’s pizza had finally arrived in singapore and is halal certified. being a big fan of food (duh!), i simply had to check out their pizzas. i vaguely remember eating at domino’s years back in JB, but the only thing that struck me then was their red and blue logo…

turns out that the nearest branch is in katong and they don’t do delivery to tampines as yet. but since i was keen on trying it out, i drove all the way there with the wife. ahh, the things we do for our stomach :)

takeaway
yes, finally got ‘em!

beforehand, i did an online order for the pizza, a rather straightforward point and click procedure. we ordered the value meal set that consists of a large pizza, jumbo wings, garlic cheese onion rings and breadstix. since there was an online promotion going on, we got a free order of twisty bread. upon confirmation of the order, the staff called me back to verify it.

so how was the pizza? well, since we took a while to reach the place, the pizza was a bit on the cold side when we reached home. but one of the plus points was that they were rather generous with their ingredients: sausages, pepperoni, chicken meat and turkey ham. the bread was fresh and very soft, the mozzarella cheese melted nicely on the pizza, but we felt that there could be more sauce. taste-wise, it’s definitely better than canadian pizza but we agreed that sarpino’s pizza sauce is still our favourite, or maybe because it really suits our so-called “malay tastebuds”.

30mins delivery

meat galore is our pizza of choice!

12" meatzza!

perhaps the great discovery food item on the menu had to be the tasty fluffy breadstix, sinfully sprinkled with garlic seasoning and piping hot, this is one side order that you cannot afford to miss out. soft and fluffy on the inside, with salsa sauce on the side, just writing about it makes me wanna grab some more!

breadstix with salsa sauce
hmm, soft and fluffy breadsticks, nice….
soft breadstix

overall, great food at a reasonable price. browse the website and see if they deliver to your area. last i checked, tampines area’s not covered! anyway click on my flickr to sample more of the food ;)

ps: i received a call from domino’s staff a day after purchasing the pizza, asking for my feedback. told them about the lack of sauce on the pizza and was informed that we could request for more sauce topping at NO EXTRA COST if we wanted to. they thanked me for my feedback and offered me a complimentary LARGE pizza on my next order. i must say, they really take their customer feedback seriously. so give them a try, not happy with the pizza, tell them! who knows you might also get a free pizza.. :)

lessons learnt while kite-flying last weekend (to be taken literally, or otherwise):

1. investing in a good string and spool makes a difference in the kite-flying experience.
2. expect false starts in the beginning – not all kites soar immediately, depending on its shape, size, material, the wind, your skillfulness, and luck.
3. there are a lot of kites up there and everyone’s competing for air space, but therein lies the challenge; solitary kite-flying’s just not as fun.
4. once your kite is up, let go of the string – slowly, or it’ll reel off uncontrollably; tug it or reel it back in occasionally so it’ll stay on course.
5. guide and navigate your kite with care, especially when you see it dip to the ground or about to get tangled up with wayward kites.
6. the easiest solution when strings become entangled in a confusing mess is to burn the knots and shorten the string; but untangle them patiently and you get to keep your strings intact.
7. let go as much of the string as you can, but keep the end tied tightly to your spool.

and most importantly,

8. never leave your spool unattended in a very young child’s hand – your kite is, more often than not, likely to fly away. far, far away. lol.

and that was what happened to our kite. i’d let her hold the spool, with the string at the end of its tethers, thinking it an exercise in trust and confidence for the little tyke, but unfortunately, the poor kite fell to its untimely demise upon a construction site some unreachable distance away from the field where we were at. oh well,

9. sometimes, kites fly away. you gotta just let go and move on.

10. we are SO not getting another kite.

coz the little boys, for whose benefit we went kite-flying in the first place, were more distracted by the open field of opportunities to run wild with their imagination and creativity (and causing general mayhem in the process). well, at least that’s free.

i know everyone says auni looks like her daddy but seriously, look at that little girl on her daddy’s lap. (yes, that was me, maybe less than a year old.)

SURELY THE RESEMBLANCE IS BLINDING.

that’s me again, probably just a little over a year old, with an aunt. c’mon, admit it.

and this is totally embarrassing but for the sake of proving a point… (i wasn’t kidding when i said i wasn’t a pretty baby.)

so, there. next time you see her, tell me she looks more like ME (fine, so maaaybe she’s a little bit cuter), ok?
