i was just over at my aunt’s place a few days ago and my boyfriend and i were playing around with my little 1-year-plus-old cousin when he started tottering and climbing around and attempting all these impossible-looking stunts (with gleeful pride, i must say). i started running towards him and sergah him and screaming all the “jangan gitu! nanti jatuh!” and “eh budak ni, takmu degil, nanti jatuh berdentum!” whathaveyous… to the point that my boyfriend gave me the speech of the year which, when summarised, sounds like this:

“eh relaks ah. you ni eh. nanti kita dah kahwin and you dah become a mother, cannot like that tau. let our children learn from their jatuh bangun and belajar from their own mistakes themselves.”

to which i retorted “yerlah, dah jatuh, kepala dah pecah, dah mampos, nak belajar from mistakes ke ape.”

hahaha. so much for my earnest promise to myself that i will be liberal and open-minded and adopt the angmoh way of parenting (i.e. biar anak belajar the workings of the world on his or her own, let them jatuh tergolek themselves so they will learn better) if and when i have my own child. from the above incident, nampak sah my cara nak jaga anak will be cara orang makan belacan. hampeh.

Parenting is not easy but enjoy while you can!…:)

i remember my younger brother was just as active as a toddler. maybe it’s because my mom did a lot of sports when she was pregnant with him. He’d run, not walk, everywhere. One day, he climbed onto the coffee table, ran across it, hopped onto the armrest of the sofa and then hopped to the backrest and then did a back flip out onto our balcony. all that happened in two blinks. we couldn’t react. then he ran off. want to scold also, the kid won’t stand still long enough to be scolded at.
