you know… it’s one thing to copy ideas (go ahead! take them!), but another thing to copy copywriting.

yes, there’s the word ‘copy’ in copywriting, but that doesn’t mean you can lift one’s carefully-thought-out choice, structure, and arrangement of words, and pass it off as yours.

if there’s one thing we hate, is our efforts in writing being lazily swiped from under our noses.

and please, don’t tell us that the same copywriting can be found everywhere on the net, or that everyone in this country has come up with the same common lines to market a particularly uncommon product, or that nothing is ‘original’ aaanyway. coz that’s just pushing coincidence waaay too far.

and even then, to plagiarise badly?

now that’s just… SimplyMelayu.

:S

Oh wat a story to blog abt. Talking bad abt others.. well you are not original urself. Saw some other ppl’s works which are much more nicer and much more creative.

This is business. Competition in business is healthy. Well, that other person’s work & words are not exactly like yours..just abit similar i guess.. Oh i think hers cost abit cheaper than yours.. So whats that to compare??

    Simply Childish la…

so many comments, some taken out of context too!

those who have dispensed business advice (esp advisor, not!), thank you very much for the well-meaning words. we know that there is nothing much we can do except to come up with fresh ideas to stay ahead of “competition” and work on an even better service. i mean, we’ll definitely try our best. :)

we ourselves were once inspired by a diapercake at a friend’s baby shower before thinking of starting this business. but not before strategising on how to differently market and brand ourselves so that it will not be similar to that of the other diapercake businesses here in sunny Singapore. that’s how our fully-covered diapercakes came about (the Original American Diapercake is exposed and not covered), named after real cake flavours to match the chosen themes! i guess that idea had some kind of appeal, which is no surprise that it caught on very quickly with other budding diapercake makers. something that we expected to happen anyway.

what we did not anticipate is someone taking our copywriting (along with another well-known diapercake maker’s) and passing it off as her own. and then FLATLY denying that her work is in any way related to ours (in the face of hard evidence? come on laa!). it’s not illegal to do that, we know, since we don’t have copyright and everything, but to rip off an idea just like that? it’s definitely not appreciated, lor. i don’t think the other diapercake maker will also find it amusing. you can call it pettiness, we call it taking pride in our work.

but what is done, is done. we just have to get on with life (and business!).

simply stumbled, we are wondering which is the safari cake that bears an uncanny resemblance to lilbabycakes’? to be honest, the idea for a safari cake came about when we were ordering our animal-print ribbons. pray tell so we can make a comparison ourselves! in this case, it’s not a question of who’s original, cos we’re talking about a specific theme and not a specific cake design. anyone can do the same theme, but the final cake design can be very different. for one, lilbabycakes’ safari cake is the exposed kind. ours is covered, baybeh. that’s where the similarities end. :)

dah cukuplah, sampai di sini saje. and ps: janganlah kita kutuk design orang lain k? tak baik laa… lawa ke tak lawa, very subjective. i’m sure other diapercake makers have their own loyal supporters. we’re just happy that our supporters love our work! :D

Hi…If its who i think it is,then i have Simply have something to share..I commented in HER site that her diaper cake is similar to urs & she took it as a BIG compliment..& when i replied it wasnt a comparison nor compliment & that she was a trend follower, she lashed out at me in a very long PM that branded me as a no brain woman who had no respect for home runned business & that she was 1st in the diaper cake wagon & that ur creations came way after her 1st creation..I was suprised at her rudeness & Simply deleted her off my contacts..

    The nerves of her!

  7. Mas says:

I also think she’s rude from the way she replied to you guys in Flickr:

“It is a two tier cake not one.Well, I did not copy. Almost all crafts(cakes etc) are done the same in Singapore tat’s why a customer specifically requested this. Who is very original here in Singapore….? Anyone can easily find the same ideas on the net. Guess some of us are still “old malay thinking” huh……”

Tsk. No wonder you guys bingit.

  8. anon says:

  11. hana says:

aik? tak habis habis jugak citer ni?? :D
makcik oi, ada comments yang termasok SPAM. simply maaf yeee.
tapi kan, melihatkan ni belog *saya*, memang lah patut komen-komen awak di-spam-kan. LOL!
(ps: just because “business is healthy” doesnt make plagiarising and every other damn thing conscionable. and i’m betting you’re the culprit too coz your writing sounds like hers.)

oh, and to the other person who was spammed, don’t bother trying again. you said:
“mcm mana nak maju orang2 mlayu kalo mcm gini!! u don’t have to voice openly in your blog..even if you don’t mention names, its not a good way to do it! so juz share with your close ones will do lah!”
i say, enough with the “macam mana orang melayu nak maju” card, coz orang melayu MEMANG DAH maju, that’s why we bring up the issue of copyrights. and like i said, this *is* my blog, and you’re asking me to censor myself? then it makes it justifiable for me to censor you as well.

thank you and close case! :D
