i may have mentioned this 497 times (more or less), but my appetite’s still shite, and it should not be because i’m in my 8th month, where the food monster should rightfully have reared its ugly head and make up for the lost months of eating atrociously.
i CAN drink though, and my current thing is sunkist orange juice. by the litre. mmmmm.
some days, though, i’d get nostalgic and go for nasi padang, which is kinda like comfort food for me, for some reason (you know, like scrambled eggs with kicap, or home-peeled-and-cut fried potatoes).
nasi padang reminds me of those occasional saturday mornings at arab st with the family when i was younger. the ikan bakar with kicap and lime, the lauk lemak ayam, the rendang, the achar… and this coming from someone who’s not much of a rice eater in the first place!
the husband is a huge rice fan (then again, he’s a huge fan of food, period), and well, whichever place i’ve been to eat, he’d tell me of another place where it’s EVEN better. so i haven’t eaten at s/ab/ar m/en/an/ti for a loooong time, coz he insists nasi padang’s nicer (and cheaper) at hjh r/at/na, tucked away in a coffeeshop at beach road.
actually, we wouldn’t say nasi padang’s cheap, coz it’s not! all those small dishes *do* add up, but we credit it to the difficulty in preparing each dish, and such a variety at that. plus, rice is VERY EXPENSIVE now, hor??
aaaaaanyway, yeah, it’s pretty good, at least good enough for me to clean off a whole plate each time. again, very unlike me. (but just don’t give me the same thing everyday lah.)
so, other foods that i *can* stomach?
why, ice-cream, of course.
yes, even (or especially) the cheapo 50 cents mcdonald’s cone – aiyah, the cheaper the better lor! right? ;p

its quite different from e first pregnancy rite..when u didnt like rice..i remember most food was unpalatable for me too..lol
anyway, my family used to patronise there a lot but i find hjh ratna’s food more on e spicy side. coz i m not ver good with too spicy stuff. i used to like warong m nasir coz e spiciness is toned down..saying that, pariaman’s has also been a favourite!
yah, couldnt stand the smell of rice then, but made up for it right after i gave birth coz i was constantly famished!
you’re right, the dishes are quite pedas hor. and i think pariaman’s is the juahir family’s favourite kan, hehee.
ooooohhhh!!! hi5 izad!! IMHO hajah ratna has the best rendang (second to my mom’s!). i know they are not as famous as sabar menanti and the likes, hajah ratna is like the underground nasi padang eatery (hehe, underground macam like secret society for nasi padang lovers, liddat). but seriously, i’ve been eating there for many years cos my late dad was a HUGE fan and he being born in sumatra where he had enjoyed the most authentic padang cuisine, would buy tapao (rendang extra please!) almost every week. i’ve not eaten there for ages though so seeing these photos makes me crave for some. i like pariaman oso, but they are so popular, you gotta catch them before 1pm, or everything will be gone by then.

ouh, speaking of popular eateries, my dad used to like hjh maimunah for the lauk lemak siput, and he’d hirup each snail vair noisily (and vair quickly)! and i’d go eewwwwww, none for me thanks. :p

yes hana.. mcD ice cream cone is no longer 50-sen ok!!! e last time my doter ordered & i paid with a single 50-cent coin. but the young girl behind the counter looked at me & i got the cheek to ask her back – “why? i ordered 1 cone only wat”.. my doter snap at me & said “Mummy, price go up aredi” & she top up the diff. heh!

i tink it is the norm cravings for those preggy with girls agaknye..hehe…cos during my 1st & 2nd preggy with my boys i am crazy abt fast food…no matter wat i must hv mcD, kfc, pizza..boleh bankrap! lol..nasi sume tak pandang but my 3rd pregnancy with my girl..fast food sume push aside…my everyday appetite sume nasi and lauk2 kampung…yang rebus2 pulak tu until my hubby said “save duit aku”…lol
n not forgetting also, everyday i must hv at least one ice-cream until my freezer full with all kinds and type of ice-cream, sticks, cones, tubs..u name it, we got it.
ehhh, seriously?? macam samaa jer! with aniq i MUST have fries like everyday too! this time round, i thought the standard of fries/fast food in the world dah turun or something coz they just dun taste right (padahal tastebuds yg tak betol hehe)…
my mum also said when she had me, she only liked things like lauk asam rebus, hot soupy stuff…
agaknye, our body subconsciously seb duit during pregnancy with girls… so we can spend more on them later when they come out! :D

HOW LIKE THAT?!?!??!?! susah tau hati aku dapat tau aku makan sampai kenyang but it’s for peanuts! ive yet to makan the padang2 food. wait i makan already, i will tell u if it’s nice or not ok. today i in bandung already.
