hey, do we still have hooters in singapore…? :p

***

ouhh, if you haven’t watched Juno, you MUST. wait, is it out in the theatres yet? coz izad d/l it to his PSP from, hmm… somewhere, plugged it to the tv, and insisted i watch it with him.

gladly enough, i did. killer script and soundtrack! quirky and indie and smart – a winning combination.

and i think ellen page is the next It girl.

speaking of teenage pregnancies, we were discussing how easy it is for sixteen-year-olds to get pregnant, and BE pregnant. like, their bodies are meant to go through the whole childbearing process effortlessly.

i mean, all those stories we hear in our local news about secretly getting through nine months hiding their bellies underneath their school uniforms and giving birth to babies in toilets – a thirty-year-old can’t get away with that, surely! (lemme go find my old tkg uniform and see if i can fit in it now, ok?) how do they do that, get away with nary a waddle, with not even a whiff of suspicion from their parents or teachers, and then give birth alone in a toilet, flush it down, get up and go. free delivery, so to speak.

ok. i think that’s depressing enough.

but go watch the show! it’s not depressing at all. in fact, it’s all vair heartwarming (nevermind the moral implications). and vair cool (once again, nevermind that it would probably inspire even more sixteen-year-olds to get knocked up).

  13. mahd says:

maybe it’s because some of these teenagers have small tummy when they are pregnant tak? i recalled when i was in my ninth month, even the nurse initially thought it was a premature labour before they checked the documents coz mine really resembled a six-month old tummy gitu. vair small…

  14. hana says:

mahd, you must be 16. ;D
maybe coz they’re younger, so their bodies are more, hmm, ‘taut’??

  15. Fina says:

Huahau.. I will work there if I have the boobs lor.. Go to work smile-smile, gelek-gelek & get tips. haha. Alah tat time i went there si Candy ni serve us.. But be prepared to get hit on by the many-many mat salleh yng hemsem-hemsem belaka ye.. tat time i went wif Eri pun dorang nak tackle.. heheheh…

Eh i noe some1 who got pregnant & managed to hide it untill she gave birth.. She just wore baggy clothes as the months go by.. Some people just dun show lah.. Esp those teenagers hor.. Now my buncitness oredi can see.. Apa lagi nanti kalau pregnant.. haha.

  16. Faiqah says:

like mahd said, maybe due to their smaller tummy kot? i was like her lah, even dah 6 mths, ppl thot i was only 2-3 mths.
    fed up!

  17. jewel says:

ahh yes, hooters in singapore is still alive. you seriously DON’T wanna go there, unless you’re young, good looking, angmoh, and a man. heh.

i am SO watching juno. i love, love, LOVE ellen page, she’s SUPER CUTE lah. i wish she had a meatier role in x-men as kitty pryde though. isnt it cool to walk through walls? juno premieres in singapore theatres today, but i’m watching it on monday (cheaper tix mahhh hehehe). i read that the featured band is called the moldy peaches, an outfit from new york.

  18. linkinmadman says:

    Dear ladies,

Not wanting to reveal much, I would like to confirm your guesses that yes, these teenagers, some of them, CAN hide their tummies throughout their 9 months. I didn’t know my petite, quiet student was pregnant all the time till one of them told me that she had recently given birth after the exams. She didn’t even take any time off from school throughout the entire time. No wonder she’s been asking me abt the “dosa” of “hubungan luar nikah” but didn’t strike me that she was already pregnant.

It’s sad to hear such things especially when the mother of the pregnant child is even in her late twenties or early thirties.

My advice to all parents out there, lets make the world a better place to live in by wanting to know the whereabouts of our children, and do be “kepo” when necessary, but in a tactful manner such that our children can accept us probing into their matters.

    Salam.

  19. Faiqah says:

    wow…im speechless

  20. nat says:

    loved. juno.

“this is one doodle that can’t be un-did”.

i’m so gonna find myself a hamburger phone.
i mean i’ve had a mickey mouse phone, but never a hamburger phone.
    heehee.

  21. syafiqah says:

jgn kata teenagers aje… my poly lecturer manage to hide her tummy thru her 9 months and she is in her late-20.

dat lecturer is small and petite and she is always seen with big jackets. (due to the cold aircon). but i manage to suspect her pregnancy and by den, she told me she is going to be 9 mth and going on maternity leave. ohh and she dun even look married. even my clasmates was surprise to know she was married. hahaha

  22. yanty says:

wow… tersentak sekejap bila i baca comments from linkinmadman. being a parent of a 10-year-old girl myself, i’m dead worried. & i hv to agree that parents definitely hv to know the whereabouts of their children. as our kids grow up & mix around, we ought to know their circle of frens. it’s wise to take precaution before they fall into bad company.

  23. lynn maharet says:

ya so nice of her..my mum buy for me baju butterfly :/ ..boleh lar pakai kat rumah lepas give birth awhwhhwwa

and and ader this nyonya minimart near my workplace..didn’t think i was married..she confirmed with my colleague whether i’m pregnant..

mebe coz i looked young hehe *perasan*

  24. Shaz says:

oh gawd Juno’s soundtrack is awesome. i love kimya dawson’s voice.

  25. hana says:

wah, quite a number of you already watched it, eh! :)

nat, if u find a hamburger fone, lemme know eh, hehe.

pina, “prepared to get hit on”, you said?? lol! *looks at 100cm wide belly* not unless the the mat salehs have a fetish for fat preg women ok. LOL!

and oh my, so the teenage pregnancy myth is true after all! :O

  26. linkinmadman says:

Yanty, i can understand the feeling u have. As an educator, I suggest that u try be very close to ur daughter. That means we have to bring ourselves to their level. We have to respect their opinion and listen to their comments, share our concerns with them but ultimately we are in charge when it comes to making final decision. I remembered someone told me that the Prophet Muhammad had mentioned some guidelines for us parents as we upbring our kids, and one of the tips was that when they are teenagers, we be friends with them. Let us be the first one they look for to share their daily stories and seek advice, not their friends! Let them be very open with us so that they will not be ashamed or embarrassed to seek our advice on anything under the sun, and give them the moral support they need as they try to seek their own identity as they grow up.

Its a very uphill task, but insyaAllah with lots of effort and prayers, we will all become good parents whom they can be proud of. My colleagues always share this story where she sometimes let her student’s problems bog her down too much that she may not have enough energy and time after a long day’s work just to be there for her kids to let them share what they’ve done in school, etc. If we can provide enough attention and guidance, insyaAllah our teachers will not be preoccupied with just this attention-deficient student who tries to have the class teacher all to himself to entertain him alone. Then how about the other 35+ students in the class? Sakit kepala jadinye!

Last but not least, its useful to stay in contact with the teachers of your kids, either through email or phone, and attend parents-teachers interaction whenever it is conducted, no matter how tired or busy you are. It will send a signal to your children that you care for them and they’ll appreciate it. We are more than willing to give feedback to you parents because when we get support from parents, the students know that they cannot play play! ;)
