kavadi unite

frankly, i didn’t even know that today was thaipusam until i noticed that a few of my indian colleagues were not around. coincidentally, i took half day leave to collect my textbooks at unisim, and since i just gotten my nikon d80 :) ,  its seems perfect that i utilised the camera and time in the afternoon to capture the parade.

thaipusam is celebrated by the hindus in honour of their lord murugan. he is considered to be the universal granter of wishes. so, from what i understand, those who ask for favour, or had their wish granted plus those who repent from their past sins would participant in the festival.

i arrived around 4pm, met 2 of my friends there. i didn’t expect to go into the temple but since we were already there, i guess it would be a waste if we didn’t enter.

the temple had this very festive atmosphere all around. with the singing, dancing and beating of the drums, it was really like a huge party! the place was brimming with people, and i noticed that there was a handful of photo enthusiasts at the temple. i managed to get a few shots from the temple. i wanted to stay longer but the missus had sms-ed me to pick her up from work. oh well, perhaps next year then,  i would try to follow them throughout the journey. :)

meantime, enjoy these photos -> click here

hey, thanks for the comments! i’m still trying to figure out some of the settings in the camera. me still learning, still got room for improvements. :)

let me tell you a secret for getting good pictures…. shoot RAW! yep, not raw as in naked buff cameraman, haha!! instead of using JPEG, try using RAW, the files might be huge but the results are worth it, easier to change the settings without any loss of detail in the pictures.

Cool pics! Hey, you’re going to UniSim? They’ve a photography club which you might be interested in. Most of them are Nikon users. By any chance, are you a member? Cos they went for some shooting on the same day, probably in the same place as you’ve been. I’ve been pondering which to upgrade. I was thinking either Nikon D80 or D300 or Canon 40D. But on the other hand, a bit kesian for all my Canon lens should I cross borders…

  8. Fina says:

Wah.. Lain kali nak ikut ahh..!! Hahaha.. I still hvnt really get to explore my canon.. No time dah…!

my pictures pale in comparison to most of the photographers that i know. i only beginner, still forever learning. you should check out this local malay dude, http://www.noorhazmee.com, takes very good pictures, also razin, http://razin.the-scene.com.sg, both are accomplished photographers, way out of my league. some of you may know them personally.

but anyway, thanks for the compliments :)

fina, kalau u interested, we can go shooting 2gether-gether! (subject to wife’s approval) hehe…

Ah I have 350D at the moment. I did thought of buying the 40D since I already have the current one for the past 2 years. The only “problem” is that the 40D feels big in my kinda small hands. I must admit though the 40D is a wicked gadget, esp with the live view which will come in handy in certain conditions. To switch to the other top brand would be good since I like testing waters and I know Nikon is damn good can. Lol. But again, sayang to think of my collection of lens, esp the 50mm f1.4. Btw, your landscape (esp sunset) pictures collection on Flickr, I like. Keep on snaping. :)
