it is an established fact that more often than not, it is the gormless s’porean caller who gets picked to go on radio to answer the most idiot-proof of all quizzes and win prizes.
this morning on ninety-one point three FM:
DJ introduces Gormless Caller (GC) and explains that to win a prize, he has to sing the next line to a song.
Studio Guest (SG), a local singer wielding a guitar, says she will sing a suzanne vega song since she will be performing in s’pore next month.
GC has not heard of suzanne vega, guitars, or music. it is a miracle he managed to dial the number of the said radio station in the first place. he probably meant to order a pizza or KFC buddy meal for himself.
SG proceeds to sing the first line, “My name is Luca…”
GC clams up.
SG begins to understand the gormless nature of radio callers in general and decides to be generous by continuing second line of song, “I live on the second ____.”
GC is still decidedly clueless.
DJ and SG try to cajole an answer out of GC with numerous clues. “It rhymes with door… more… four… etc. Let’s say you live on the ninth…?”
GC attempts.
“… storey?”

frustrating kan..kan..kan.!!!
why are these GC ppl so lucky..!..pfftt…
haha, that’s funny. errr… to prove myself right, it’s floor isn’t it?
hehe… i think you should try to call in next time, faz! do us proud! :)
that’s lame, lah!!!
eh bodohnyer GC tu…
anyway, first time i heard the song, i cried. heh..
yeah, it’s such a sad song, leaves an impression on you each time you hear it.
and i always wonder if her profession rhymes with her name too. ;p
actually i was more appalled that u were listening to ninety-one point three. kwakwakwa..!
LOL! really?? well it’s a step up from 98.7 ok! :p
the trend is like this: power98, then class95, then perfect10 (till the muttons got switched to midnite), and now dah malas so stick to 91.3 (more for rod and the married men than joe & petrina actually).
i know i know, i shd just plug the ipod in the car instead of listening to the drivel on radio. sighh.
hahaha.. i somehow still prefer the ‘randomness’ of radio playlists compared to the ipod. unless they’re playing numbing techno music on sat nites especially… gack! even retro hits dun bother me that much (admit it, we’re that old!)
i usually respond to radio GCs with an out-loud ‘BODOH!’ as i drive along. other than that, nothin’ much we can do to disallow such ppl from popping up on air. bah.
I pun now switch to 91.3fm bcos of those 2 shows!!!
Especially the evening one with Rod & the married men.. I can laff my head off with their jokes.
I was soo sad when they said that its was their last wk of broadcast.. skali kena pluck dah!!! Hahahaha!!! :P
the callers on the married men show are funny, but i suspect they’re fake. :p
but yah, the segments make evening drives interesting, although i dun really like the girl. hallo, married MEN?
and her news-reading also annoys me, i sometimes switch when she’s doing it…
eh, ipod oso can set to “shuffle” mahh… ;)
and who listens to radio on sat nites?? hehehe.
“hello gerfren” hehe .. i love the married men too .. cant stop laughing each time rod/andre say “hello boyfren”
them both never fail to make me laugh lah ..
oh yes ayu .. i was so sad too ..
and i listened to them so attentively .. ran fm carpark to home .. so as not to miss the reason why it was their last wk of broadcast .. skali kena pluck pulak .. LOL ..
hahah of course ipod got shuffle da. wat i meant is that the ipod library is nowhere near as vast as that of a radio station kan. besides my regular station (the ‘power’ful one) frequently slips in some ’90s near-classics that most likely won’t be in the ipod.
anyway i only get to tune in to the radio during my car commutes. which may very well be on a sat nite lor. how sad… hehehehe
ohh i love suzanne vega. Especially her song “tom’s diner” which i first heard in “untamed heart” starring Marisa Tomei, whom I love too. =)
(this comment doesn’t have a point. lol)
hey gerlfrens! :p
ahh yeah tom’s diner, and i used to have it big for christian slater, ok!
su, 90′s songs eh… you’re living in the past lah, lol! at least they’ve cut down on the 80′s stuff, that was getting REALLY old.
that ‘kena pluck’ thing on ninety-one-point-three is quite funny, then there’s the 3-way-call segment where they confuse people, and sometimes guys/girls get ‘revealed’ for adultery or cheating, wahlao. :D
Huahua.. bodoh dodoh.. Even if you dunno the song the clues are so obvious sia..! Sometimes ahh these callers make a fool of themselves & they dun even know it..
have you ever tried calling in? i did! got thru and won CDs a few times on power98 hehee.
then there was that one time i got invited to the studio for one of the shows and got myself a free date, LOL!!
no doubt that was the point where i decided i suck at dj-ing (and blind dates). :ppppp
LOL! Kesian, tak pernah dengar radio kot. I think dia dengar 92.4 jer jadi takde nyanyi2 ni sumer.
Hey, I also won plenty of stuff from Power 98… handphone lah, CDs lah..agaknyer takde orang telepon tu station hehehe…
eh you too eh nani?? ya hor, quite easy to get thru, surprisingly. tak tau ah skarang, dah lama tak dengar pon.
but wahh handphone sey! not bad…
Ehh..!! Really..you suck at dj-ing..? haha.. I’ve always wanted to try.. Entah orang fed-up agaknya pasal ni dj tak tau diam.. Last time I always call when 98.7 have that “open-open win” game.. But always orang bodoh yng get through.. Nowadays tak dengar radio leh.. Opis banyak orang cerewet.. Kuat sikit aje dia suruh tutup. menyampah. Dulu opis sendiri nak kuat mcm disco pun boleh.. *grumbles*
