the little one and i have been coughing persistently for a couple of months now. we’re not sure why, we’d gone for so many visits to the doctors, and one (rather dubious) doctor even said we have an allergy, though she couldn’t enlighten further when i asked what triggered it. did i have neighbours with dogs or cats, she asked. well yeah, but we’ve been staying here for three years so how could it only happen now? my request for a chest xray for both or either of us was also inconsequentially waved away.
i had the last straw when the little one merlioned out a whole puddle of yellow phlegm one night after a bout of cough.
so, saturday morning (after cleaning up his bedsheet YET again from an entire bottle of freshly-merlioned milk), with the daddy at work, i got him ready and brought him myself to kkh for a check up. the nurse offered a chest xray for him (like, finally, someone with sense!) and off he went, into the xray room.
a check showed that he had yellow phlegm at the back of his throat, and the cute little xray revealed that he had a mild chest infection. well, someone should’ve told us that sooner! and only then did they give him antibiotics and a stronger cough medication.
i think it may be hereditary, this phlegm problem. i remember i was hospitalised for a few days when i was small because of the dastardly phlegm. and when i coughed like mad, my dad would SCOLD me instead of comforting me, blaming me for sleeping with the fan full blast at my feet, or drinking cold drinks, or just plain ol’ “batok, batok! bising!”. i used to go to my room and cough INTO my pillow to muffle the sounds, in fear of my dad’s scolding. (yeah, that’s how it was, and still is, with my dad and i – i never tell him any of my discomforts or problems.)
so anyway, i’m hoping the antibiotics will work this time round for him. i’d finished my course of antibiotics, but the cough still lingers. it’s probably chronic. and i blame myself for infecting him.
tu lah, tidor dengan kipas kat kaki lagi… minum air sejuk lagi…
