following the previous post, i wanted to say, i wouldn’t want too large an age gap between my offsprings, like it is between my brother and i. that’s a five-year gap, practically a whole different generation altogether (we have totally different tastes, interests, inclinations, etc). my mum said they only decided to have me after five years to keep HIM company. (till now i resent that!) of course, it didn’t work, coz we spent most of our growing up years fighting or ignoring each other. it’s taken a long time to build a bridge between that five-year gap, and well… it’s still, a lil rickety.

so yeah. i think a three-year gap is, for me, ideal. not too close, not too far. still, i’m grappling with the rationale for even having a number two. can i handle another child? is one not enough? do i need two kids to justify my existence? (ok ok, i know, i should just have them because it justifies my existence as a human being with the ability and responsibility to procreate and to ensure the longevity of the human race… but am i worthy of contributing to the human population with my offsprings and average genes? arrgh! ok ok, stop it, hana! – sorry, my inner dilemma with eugenics and quasi-existentialism should be categorised under random ramblings.)

i guess the right answer too all this is, we can plan all we want and talk about it till the cows come home, but in the end it’s pretty much… up to The One Above.

my sis n i are 3 years apart (2 yrs 9 mths to be exact). yet u can’t find two sisters more unlike each other. and our squabbles continue till this very day (just ask my mum). lol!

  2. hana says:

so it boils down to personalities, huh? that’s true too, i guess!
susah-susah mak ‘engineer’, skali still cannot get along eh, budak-budak ni, cet. :p

  3. nymph says:

yeah, talk abt personality clashes. even our ideals in life are worlds apart!
i’ve always envied those with such tight sibling bonds. sometimes i had wished i had brothers instead. :p

so my point being, it may not matter how many years apart the offsprings may be. and who cares if they are boys or girls. i guess complementary personalities matter a great deal more.

  4. hana says:

are you sure you want brothers?? they can be quite a pain in the -! :D
i’d hv wanted a sister, if only to steal her clothes and makeup (and boyfriends?). hee.
old people would say to keep the umbilical cord stumps of siblings together in one pouch so they’d hv a close relationship. i have aniq’s dried up and shrivelled thingy in his drawers, preserved for future use!

beb, important thing… enjoy the ‘process’ as u’re deciding on the optimal time to pop out no. 2! ;)

  6. is says:

    it depends lah..
my bro used to be my shopping buddy when i need someone to carry the grocery bags.
    n he is quite dependable..until he gets a girlfren..lol
..no lah..now also ok..sometimes when my mum thks he needs to be advised, she ask me to speak to him..n viceversa

and faizal is a good brother to his sisters..we quite consultative
    so not bad mah

hello! i think it’s better to have bros or sistas than being an only child. i can attest to that!! so please do make more babies ok. only children tend to want the lion’s share of everything….hahaha.

  8. Ogy says:

i think 3 years gap is just rite! we too are trying! hahaha….

i guess i’m an ‘accident’ child. My two sisters are 3 years apart and they are enjoying each other accompany till i came into the picture 7 years later.

  9. aliyah says:

eh! i have a younger brother and we are 1 year apart.

from young till now we have bitter-sweet relationship:
    1) last time we fight n hit each other (most times i win cos i playcheat!) now we fight with words through smses or cause damaged to his or my fav stuiffs (not too gd this case cos we live under one roof)

    2) there’s times when we were nice to each other say like borrowing one another’s stuff. during teenage i always borrow his jeans! or t-shirts or haversacks now i borrow his money when i’m broke cos he’s richer than me. :-D kekadang bayar balik kekadang di-halal-kan. ;-D) so in return, i do his laundry, iron and cleaned his smelly room *pukes*

    3) ouh!! we still do fight for our mum’s attention even now! u know sometimes during my absence, he always complain to our mum that when we’re young our mum pampered me now she pampered my baby…… like duh~!!! (kental siak adik i tuh :-p) so bila dia nak manja2 dgn our mum, dia suro our mum butangkan baju dia lah, jahitkan baju army dia lah (when he can diy) sikat rambut lah…. *puke …puke…puke*

there’s a whole list and i think being 1 yr apart has the pros and cons lah esp when we’re young…..my plan was also to have a no.2 when nks is abt 2-3 yrs old.

  10. saly says:

    Go for it dear.

for me it’s not the age gap or the gender, it’s how we nurture/teach/scream/ the elder sibling to look after and love the younger sibling :) …heh..

Sure, they’ll be fights, screaming fests !

  11. irris says:

Ehh…I’m 7 yrs older than my bro, and 13 yrs older than my sis! I think it’s fun to have big gaps, coz I get to play “Big sister” almost all the time. Also, my parents don’t feel that lonely after I get married, coz still ada 1 young, unmarried person to fuss over :D

  12. mahd says:

between me and my sister, we are 4 years apart and between her and the last sister, it’s a 6-year gap. the second and third sisters are closer to each other (well, sort of) and i’m closer to the last one despite having a 10-year gap.

so, yes…sometimes, i think a breather between siblings would be a good idea but actually, it comes down to how we bring up our kids, no?

  13. hana says:

yah hor, reading all the comments, looks like age gap is not the main factor, but how we r brought up… Its not so easy though, huh? :-S

  14. Herni says:

Yah, I understand having a sibling older or age far apart is hard. Between me and sister (6 years gap)… *roll eyes… between me and my brother(1 year)…. ok!
Aniq, aniq nak adik tak? Mak dah plan tu!

  15. ibu aisyah says:

aniq dah start sucking his jari kaki ke? *in relation to makcik2 punyer cakap!*

  16. Shidah says:

Oh cik Hana, di sini kamu skrg, yer? Anw, I think age gap is not really a factor. Like me n my younger sis, we are 4 years apart but we’re close, altho we have very different tastes. Then I have dis colleague who is closer to her eldest bro although they r 10 yrs diff, rather than her 2nd bro who is only 3 yrs diff.

  17. hana says:

herni, tanya lah aniq, he will say “NAK!”
but u ask him anything else pon he will say “NAK!”
    nak swimming? NAK!
    nak spider? NAK!
    nak tido? NAK!
    etc.

wei i STILL dun get that toe-sucking business tau.. haha! apa seh kena mengena? *garuk kepala*

    yah i think mebe age gap is just a small factor lah… hmm… liddat… i wait 10 yrs k! i’ll be 40 then!

  18. raggedyanne says:

my 2 younger brothers are only a few years apart, but we fought like h***

my mum used to tell us that she had ground up our shriveled cords together & mixed it in our milo to stop us from squabbling.

Does that stop us? Nope :D Good luck!

  19. tea says:

me and my younger sister are 3 years apart and me and my youngest sister are 7 years apart but we get along very well..on the contrary, my eldest sis and I are 2 years apart but we are 4ever squabbling…oops! heh! so, i tink the age gap doesnt matter…

  20. Nana says:

try carrying an infant in front of aniq lah..see how he reacts =)

  21. hana says:

me carry babies? dia dah pandai jealous! even when my mum pretend to “sayaang sayaang” me, or i pretend to “sayaang sayaang” ijad, he protests, lol! how? :D

wow tea, ogy and irris, 7 yrs apart? your mothers all mcm kawin muda eh, can have such large gaps in between!

anne, sedap tak milo tu…? ewww.
